Theresa M. (Balmes) Crowley

Theresa M. Crowley, 97, a longtime resident of Gurnee, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born on January 17, 1926, in Wilmette, IL to the late Joseph John and Theresa Elizabeth (nee Pestka) Balmes. On June 19, 1948, at St. Patrick's Church in Wadsworth, Theresa married the love of her life, Henry G. Crowley, who passed away July 30, 1990. 

Theresa was a Registered Nurse retiring from St. Therese Hospital in 1971, after many years of service. She also volunteered her time cooking and assisting the priests at St. Joseph Church in Waukegan. She will be remembered for her infamous baked goods, especially her homemade bread. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, and making ceramics. 

She is survived by her loving family, her five children, Tim (Terese Seifert) Crowley, Terry (John) Halmai, Greg (Laurie) Crowley, Susan Crowley, and Art (Michele) Crowley; one sister, MaryAnn (Robert) Grum; eleven grandchildren, Dennis, Deanna, Dawn, Nate, Matt, Brandon, Brittany, Nicole, Danielle, Henry, and Bernie; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Theresa was preceded in death by her siblings, John Balmes, Francis Balmes, Bill Balmes, Jim Balmes, Frederick Balmes, Mark Balmes, Agnes Walenter, and Dick Balmes. 

A celebration of life and a memorial mass will be held on Friday, May 12, 2023, with visitation from 9am-11am, and memorial mass at 11am, at Little Flower Parish, St. Dismas Catholic Church location, 2600 Sunset Avenue, Waukegan, IL with Msgr. Dennis Lyle officiating. A private family interment will take place at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville. A reception will follow the mass at 12:30pm, at the Gurnee American Legion, 749 Milwaukee  Avenue, Gurnee, IL. Memorial donations may be made to Little Flower Parish.
