Shirley Hoven Obituary

Shirley Andrea Hoven (VanLaeke)

It is with great heartache we share the sudden passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother (nana), great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend who passed August 14, 2021, at 84.

Shirley was born July 24, 1937, grew up in North Chicago then raised her family in Waukegan where she worked and retired from OMC. Recently, Shirley resided at Green Oaks Senior Living. A member of St. Patrick’s in Wadsworth and St. Joseph’s in Libertyville, she was also in the St. Patrick Shamrocks and the Waukegan Women Moose. An avid movie buff, she enjoyed knitting, reading, and reunions with former classmates.  She loved her annual family trips to Cocoa Beach, FL.

Shirley was intensely thoughtful, sweet, kind, gracious and appreciative to everyone. She always gave more than she took and taught us to love unconditionally. Shirley cherished time spent with family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and was very proud of all their accomplishments. Her sign-off was always “Bye Now” as if she was already looking forward to your next visit.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her adoring husband of 27 years, Raymond Hoven; son Perry (Heather) Lentine of Park City, UT; daughters, Julie May of Lake Bluff, Gina Lentine of Cornville, AZ, Lisa (John) Walczak of Wadsworth; grandchildren, AJ (Brittni), Dominick, Ryan, Cori, Jenna, Maddie; great-grandchildren, Aleyah and Kylee.

She was preceded in death by her parents Pauline and Leo VanLaeke; her sisters Nancy (Louie) Koschak, Sandra Miscichowski, Linda Ayers, Paulette VanLaeke; infant grandson John Walczak, grandson Brendan May; sister-in-law Doris Peters; brothers-in-law Bill Miscichowski and Bill Lentine.

Visitation: September 4th, Saturday - 10am followed by mass at 12pm with Fr. James Merold officiating, St. Patrick’s Church, 15000 W. Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, IL 60083. Due to COVID, masks are required and there will not be a luncheon following mass.
