Rasa Babelnieks

Rasa Babelnieks, 85, of Long Grove, passed away March 2, 2020, at home. She was born January 26, 1935, in Latvia to the late Arveds and Ludmila (Karklins) Zicmanis. Her birth mother, Ludmila, passed away when she was only nine years old, and she was then raised by her father and her second mother, the late Olga Zicmanis. On July 3, 1965, in Chicago, Rasa married the late Olgerts Babelnieks. Rasa loved teaching, gardening, and enjoyed making and selling Latvian crafts. She is survived by her loving children, son, Juris Babelnieks; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Eric Ricard; grandsons, Lars Ricard and Henry Ricard; sister, Inese Zicmanis; brother-in-law, Lauris Rozkalns; nephew, Davis Rozkalns, and niece, Laima Rozkalns. In addition to her parents and beloved husband of 41 years, Rasa was preceded in death by her sister, Zane Rozkalns. A memorial mass will take place Friday, March 6, 2020, at 2:00pm with visitation from 1:00pm - 2:00pm at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, 6401 Gages Lake Rd., Gurnee, with Fr. Krzysztof Ciaston officiating. Interment will be private at Mount Olive Cemetery, Chicago. Arrangements entrusted to Sambrano Funeral & Cremation, Gurnee.
