Melvin "Mel" Guthman

Melvin "Mel" Guthman, 82, of Gurnee, passed away Dec. 15, 2017 at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. He was born Aug. 23, 1935 in Evanston. On Mar. 6, 1982 in Waukegan, Mel married the love of his life, Diana. Mel is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Diana Guthman; children, Jeffrey (Anna) Guthman, Christopher (Jennifer) Van Skyock, Debbi (Joe) Hansen and Greg Guthman; grandchildren, Katy (Kevin), Melinda, Sara, Samantha, Alexia, Lillian and Chloe; great grandchildren, Aiden and Finn; sisters-in-law, Mary Beth Guthman, Catherine (Richard) Johnson and Robin Rine; brother-in-law, Robert Amorelli; many nieces, nephews and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin Guthman and Audrienne Reutepohler and brother, Robert Guthman. Mel was an active member and Past President of the Prince of Peace Congregation in Waukegan. He was Past President of the Baxter Alumni Club, and retired in 1995 after 27 years as Director of Purchasing for the Scientific Products Division. Mel was an avid Chicago Bears, White Sox, Bulls, and Black Hawks fan. A memorial service will take place Wednesday, Dec. 20 at 11:30am with visitation from 10am-11:30am at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2720 N. McAree Rd., Waukegan with Pastor John Shumate officiating. Burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the Prince of Peace Memorial Fund.
