Lucille Ortegel Obituary

Lucille M. Ortegel (nee Williams)

Lucille, better known as Toots and/or Tootsie, was born to John and Lucille Williams on March 2, 1932.  She grew up in Wilmette and attended St. Joseph Catholic School and graduated from New Trier High School.  Toots then went on to become a licensed beautician and owned her own beauty shop on the corner of Ridge Road and Lake Avenue in Wilmette where she met, fell in love with, and married Fred, her mailman, February 15, 1957.  They lived in Deerfield and then moved to Waukegan where they raised their 2 children, Lance and Tracy.  Toots sold her beauty shop and became a full-time mom.  She loved being the popcorn lady and PTA mom at Little Fort, and a Girl Scout Leader for many years.  She was very involved in her children’s lives and activities. Some of the best years and memories were created at their house up north in Three Lakes, Wisconsin.  Spending time with family and friends snowmobiling, boating, waterskiing, laughing, shopping in Eagle River, and relaxing.  Toots was creative and artistic.  She enjoyed doing crafts, quilting, painting, adult coloring, and she was an avid reader.  Toots was an organizer, a party planner, a decorator, a friend to many, but most of all, she took care of her family and those she loved.  Let’s not forget, Toots LOVED to talk and socialize!  She kept in contact with several of her childhood friends, life-long friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, and adult children of her friends that have passed.  They have all said, “Tootsie was like our second mom.”

Toots and Gram moved to Ingleside after Fred passed.  She loved her home there and loved decorating and redecorating it.  Eventually, she moved in with Tracy and her family.  Carrington, her great grandson, had a special bond with his Gigi.  In her 80’s, they would color, play cards and board games, read to each other, dye Easter eggs together, get breakfast and coffee from Mc Donald’s every chance they could, and would always see who could get the last word in.

Toots spent her final few years at Aperion Care where she made a new circle of friends and loved her time there.  She was loved by everyone there for her sense of humor, her ability to say what was on her mind, and still taking care of the other residents.  We thank you for taking such good care of her and your patience.

Toots was proceeded in death by her husband; Fred Ortegel, parents; John and Lucille Williams, and brother; John (Bus) Williams.

Toots is survived by her children; Lance (Donna) Ortegel and Tracy Wollbrinck.   6 Grandchildren; Chance and Teddie Wollbrinck, Mercedes (Paul) Schermann, Montarey Ortegel, Blade (Kari) Ortegel, and Wedge Ortegel.  6 Great grandchildren; Carrington and Tinsley Wollbrinck, Carrera and Ducati Ortegel, Bentley Ortegel, and Violet Schermann.  Along with several extended family members and friends.

As per Toots, she was very adamant and insistent, that there be no service, funeral, memorial, luncheon, dinner, or even a celebration of life.  She chose to be cremated and was looking forward to being reunited with her loved ones in heaven.   The only thing that she didn’t say or do was to write her own obituary which is a shocker!
