Kathryn "Kathy" Smith, age 77 of Richmond. IL, peacefully passed into eternity on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Kathy is now rejoicing in heaven with our Lord and has been reunited with loved ones in eternal peace.
Kathy was born on February 27, 1948, in Clay Center, Kansas to the late Herman and Valeda (Cundiff) Hugg. Kathy was raised on the family farm in Industry, Kansas.
A proud graduate of Chapman High School, Chapman, Kansas, Kathy went on to earn her Nursing Degree from Asbury Hospital College, Salina, Kansas. On February 21, 1970, Kathy married the love of her life, Donald Smith, who was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas.
Kathy worked as a Registered Nurse and Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse for 46 years in Wichita, Kansas, and Waukegan, Illinois. She had a true passion for caring for others and was deeply committed to her profession.
Kathy is survived by her loving husband of 55 years and best friend, Don; two sons, Scott Smith and Brian (Traci) Smith; three grandchildren, Amanda (Adrian) Leiser, Sara Smith, and Jacob Smith; one brother, David (Phyllis) Hugg; two sisters, Joanne (the late Drew) Dierking and Joyce (Zach) Sahker. She will be lovingly remembered by her many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
A woman of strong faith and service, Kathy was active in her church and sang in the choir for many years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and loved watching games shows.
Cremation is scheduled and a celebration of life is pending for a future date in Kansas.
