James "Pete" Pantel III Obituary

James Richard Pantel III, age 35, of Zion, Illinois, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side.

James, known affectionately as “Pete” to those who loved him, was a man of quick wit, incredible intelligence, and a heart that loved deeply. He brought joy to everyone around him with his stories, warmth, and contagious laugh. Whether he was telling a joke, playfully teasing someone he loved, or just showing up with a smile, Pete had a rare gift for making people feel at ease and reminding them to enjoy life.

He was the oldest of four siblings, a proud big brother to Stephanie Murillo, Micah Pantel, and Shannon Pantel, and a devoted son to James Richard Pantel Jr. and Sandra Dee Pantel.

James was also a loving father to his son, Waylon, who was the light of his life. He found pure joy in playing, joking, and running around with Waylon, and he shared that same loving, playful spirit with his nieces and nephews...always with candy in hand.

James had a brilliant mind, a photographic memory, and a natural curiosity. He was passionate about working with his hands and solving problems most people wouldn’t dare attempt. He loved fishing, golfing, and above all, music. Especially that of his favorite artist, Waylon Jennings, whose songs brought him comfort, laughter, and a little rebellion.

He also had a deep love for animals and a gentle way with them that showed just how kind his soul truly was.

James is survived by his loving grandmothers Danford Gauze and Constance De Soto, along with many aunts, uncles, and cousins who loved him dearly. He is also survived by his beloved girlfriend, Erica “Honey Bee” Henning, who never left his side in any time of need and always showed up with unwavering love and devotion.

He is preceded in death by his great-grandmother Beverly McPherson, great-grandparents Wallace and Jeanette Pantel, grandparents Elliot "Papaw" Gauze, James Richard Pantel Sr., and Valerie Pantel, his beloved cousins Jesse Kutinac and Jordan Gauze, and his loyal dog, Whiskey, who was never far from his side.

James' laughter, brilliance, and unwavering love will never be forgotten. He will be remembered for the joy he gave so freely, the strength he carried quietly, and the legacy of love he leaves behind in all of us.

A celebration of James' life will be held privately, with family who will gather to honor the man who made our world brighter by doing something that he loved.
