James A. Petersen, 79, of Waukegan, passed away March 16, 2018 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. He was born Nov. 28, 1938 in Minneapolis, MN to Kenneth and Lillian (Hirman) Petersen. Jim married "the love of his life," Betty Wong, on Aug. 12, 1960 in New Hampton, Iowa. Jim served as a US Navy Veteran during Vietnam, and retired after 23 years of service. He was also a longtime member of the Moose Lodge in Zion. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Betty Petersen; children, Laurie (Matt) Dinges, Ronald (Jennifer Maguire) Petersen, Kimberly West, and former son-in-law, Kevin West; brother, Eugene Petersen; sisters, Beverly (Leland) Matzka and Sharon (Jerry) Ronning; brother-in-law, Edward (Nancy Melton) Wong; sister-in-law, Mary (Karl) Lee; grandchildren, Kyle (Danielle) West, Korbin (Olivia Farver) West, Kasen West and Larissa (Daniel) Nieves; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved daughter, Susan Elaine Petersen. Burial will take place at Ft. Sheridan Cemetery in Ft. Sheridan, Vattner Road, Fort Sheridan, IL at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018. A celebration of life will take place at the Moose Lodge, 41517 N. Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL following the burial. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Sambrano Funeral & Cremation, Gurnee, IL.
