It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our dad, Gordon A. Oakes, 81, formerly from Waukegan, IL, and a recent resident of Lake Forest, IL, loving husband for 54 years, father, grandfather/papa, brother, cousin, and friend on Monday, November 4, 2024.
Gordon was born on May 27, 1943, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to the late Edith Oakes Wilson. He immigrated to the United States to further his education and secure employment. Shortly after arriving in Waukegan, he met Sandra Harrall, a registered nurse, who was caring for him after surgery. Their relationship flourished, they married, and had two beloved children, Gregory (Greg) and Elizabeth (Beth). In 1984, Richard Lanner became chosen family while staying with the Oakes
