Elizabeth "Betty" J. Edwards

Elizabeth “Betty” J. Edwards, 90, a longtime resident of Waukegan, passed away July 23, 2024. She was born November 2, 1933, in Wauwatosa, WI to the late Louis and Lillian (Johnson) Jordan. On July 4, 1953, in Yuma, AZ, Betty married the love of her life, Walter T. Edwards. 

Betty graduated from Waukegan High School. She worked as a clerk at Waukegan City Hall, retiring in 1997.  Betty was a member of First United Methodist Church in Waukegan and The P.E.O. Sisterhood.  She loved gardening, was an avid reader, and volunteered at the Waukegan Public Library.  She and her husband served many years with the Free Meal Program.  Betty enjoyed her close circle of friends and loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Stover and Andrea (Patrick) Pekkarinen; grandchildren, Melissa Stover, Katie (Ben) Wurtz, and Kevin (Rebecca) Pekkarinen; great grandchildren, Thomas, Jack, and Ella Wurtz, and Madeline and Walter Pekkarinen.  Also surviving are her sister, Alice Bald and nephews, Daryl Coad and Danny Coad and niece, Susie Brown in addition to many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband of 57 years, Walter.  Also preceding her in death were her son-in-law, David Stover, her brother, Robert Jordan, her brother-in-law, William Bald and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Lloyd Coad.

Visitation is Tuesday, July 30, 2024, from 9am-10am, at First United Methodist Church, 128 N. Martin Luther King, Jr., Avenue, Waukegan.  Funeral services will be from 10am-11:00am, at church with Rev. Dr. Barbara Morgan officiating.  A luncheon will be held from 11:00am-12:30pm, at church following the services.  Burial will take place at 1:00pm, at Pine View Memorial Park in Beach Park, IL.  Memorial donations may be made to: First United Methodist Church, 128 N. Martin Luther King Jr Ave. Waukegan, 60085.
