Dina Karanikolas, 47, of Zion, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on February 7, 2022, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, IL. She was born on March 6, 1974, in Waukegan to the late Michail and Kaliope (Grigoriadis) Karanikolas. Dina is survived by her loving family, her three children, Ivette Serrano, Micheal Serrano, and Kaili Serrano; three sisters, Margie Kobus, Maria Karanikolas, and Nikole Karanikolas-Saldana (Ryan Saldana); two grandchildren, Joell Gloria and Jasiah Serrano; devoted boyfriend, Frankie Aguirre; longtime friend and father of her children, Jose Serrano; five nieces and nephews, Michael Kobus, Alexandra Kobus, Christopher Thompson, Arianna Thompson, and Olivia Thompson. In addition to her parents, Dina was preceded in death by her beloved sister, Varvara Karanikolas; and brother-in-law, LeRoy "Butch" Kobus. Visitation will be held Friday, February 11, 2022, from 6-8pm at Ringa Funeral Home, 122 S. Milwaukee Ave., Lake Villa, IL. A funeral liturgy will take place on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 10am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1400 O’Plaine Road, Libertyville, IL with Fr. Thomas Alatzakis officiating. Burial will follow at New Gracanica Serbian Orthodox Cemetery, Third Lake, IL. Arrangements entrusted to Sambrano Funeral & Cremation, Gurnee, IL.
