Derrick George Zebedee, 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25th, 2022. He was born in Cranborne Dorset, England on October 19th, 1930, to father, Arthur Frank Zebedee and mother, Alice Mabel Zebedee. He had three sisters and one brother, Yvonne, Cynthia, Janet, and Bernard.
Growing up he played Cricket with the Cranborne Cricket Club. He proudly served with the R.E.M.E (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) in England providing equipment support by conducting preventive maintenance, repairs, recovery, manufacture and modification of the Armies equipment including military vehicles. He was very proud of his service.
He married the love of his life, Vera May Jarvis, on July 3rd, 1954, in Cranborne Dorset. They remained married until her passing in 1998.
He and his wife, Vera, started a framing and glass business in Wilmette that lasted for 40 years. They ran the business together until her passing. Derrick continued to run the business until he retired in 2012. After retirement he enjoyed golfing with his grandson, granddaughter and son-in-law. He volunteered with the Special Olympics as a coach, loved working with the athletes, and they loved him very much.
Derrick was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alice Zebedee; his beloved wife, Vera Zebedee; brother, Bernard Zebedee; sisters, Yvonne (nee Zebedee) Blake and Janet (nee Zebedee) Penny; sister-in-law, May Zebedee; brother-in-law, Gerald Lane; and grandson, Elijah.
He is survived by his sister, Cynthia (nee Zebedee) Lane; his daughter, Lisa Zebedee (Fiancé Robert Vanderhoef); his beloved grandchildren, Derrick, Alexandra (Tyler Globis), and Elizabeth and Jesus, as well as his much adored great grandson, Connor; all of whom loved their papa very much; brothers-in-law, Laurence Blake and Michael Penny; along with countless extended family and friends who all held him in the highest regard and loved him dearly.
At his request there will be no memorial service or funeral. Contributions in memory of Derrick can be made to the Special Olympics at www.soill.org.
