Della Rose Sweeney

Della Rose Sweeney, 82, of Grayslake, IL formerly of Mundelein, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on June 4, 2021, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, IL. She was born on December 13, 1938, in Highwood, IL to the late Peter and Florence (Petrone) Margelli. On April 27, 1957, in Highwood, IL, Della married the love of her life, Jack Russell Sweeney. Della’s family was the most important part of her life. She loved family traditions, especially holidays. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking, baking, and making her special Jam to share with her family and friends. Della was also an avid Cubs fan. She is survived by her loving, devoted husband of 64 years, Russ Sweeney; three sons, Michael Sweeney, Thomas (Carrie) Sweeney, and Christopher (Laura) Sweeney; one daughter, Mary Beth (Jim) Archer; ten grandchildren, Meagan, Allison, Erin, Matthew, Ryan, Michelle, Peter, Madelyn, Audrey, and James; and one niece, Kelly Gattis. In addition to her parents, Della was preceded in death by her beloved son, David Sweeney; and her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Mark Gattis. There will be a celebration of life on Sunday, June 6, 2021, from 1:00pm– 5:00pm at The Lake Lodge, 2601 Saddlebrook Dr., Grayslake, IL. A funeral mass will be held on Monday, June 7, 2021 at 10:00am, at St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 22333 W. Erhart Rd., Mundelein, IL with Rev. Fr. Jerry Jacob officiating. Burial will follow at Ascension Catholic Cemetery in Libertyville, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation, www.scleroderma.org.
