David was diagnosed with Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA) in 2010.  Since then he has participated in research studies at the Mayo Clinic and the Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer's Disease Center (CNADC) at Northwestern in Chicago.  This research resulted in a breakthrough in the study of apraxia of speech.  A paper was published on this topic and David was one of two cases used as examples in the paper published by Dr. Keith Josephs of the Mayo Clinic.  His brain has been donated to the CNADC for further research.  His legacy will help newly diagnosed patients and provide needed information to the medical professionals of many future generations.

After 40 years in the financial services industry, Dave retired.  He worked as an insurance agent at Mutual of Omaha and then worked at Champion Federal Savings and Loan in Bloomington, IL where he became the Retail Sales Manager.  When Champion was acquired, he had the opportunity to become the Trust and Brokerage Manager in Florida where he lived for 12 years.  He returned to Illinois and finished his career at Allstate Financial in suburban Chicago.

Dave was an avid golfer and always had a great time with his buddies as they traveled to many exciting courses.  He loved to swim and be near the water.  He was a regular at the Angler's Club in Bloomington when he was growing up.  During the college football season, he was never far from watching the action as his favorite teams played those he didn't favor as much.  He was a loyal Florida Gators fan and enjoyed their many winning seasons.  One of his greatest pleasures was to read to his grandchildren and derive joy from their reactions to the stories.

Dave was a kind and gentle man; a great story-teller with a wonderful sense of humor and a marvelous laugh.  He will be deeply missed by his family and all those who loved him.
