Carol Massar Obituary

Carol E. Massar, 80, of Gurnee passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at Sunrise in Gurnee. She was born on January 5, 1937 in Superior, WI to the late Harry and Ruth Erbeck. Carol attended DePere High School in DePere, WI, graduated with honors in 1955, and was awarded a scholarship to Germany when she was 16 years old. Carol went on to attend the University of Wisconsin Madison to earn her undergraduate degree in International Relations. She was honored to have worked for the famous Dr. Harry Harlow, Professor of Psychology, during her years at Madison. She also received a scholarship to study in the Middle East during her junior year. Carol then attended the University of St. Mary's in San Antonio, TX, and earned her Master's Degree in English. She taught at several Universities, and worked for the Core of Engineers as their Public Relations Representative. Carol is survived by her children, Mark Massar, Paul Massar, Luke (Lisa) Massar, Mary Ruth (Massar) Sweeney, and Peter (Denise) Massar; she was the proudest grandmother of Allison Sweeney, Ryan Sweeney, Madelyn Sweeney, Margaret "MJ" Massar, Roxanne Massar, Luke Massar, Jack Massar, Kate Massar, and Henry Massar who she absolutely loved and adored. Graveside burial on Friday, June 23, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Warren Cemetery, 1495 N. Cemetery Rd., Gurnee. A reception will follow the ceremony, details to be announced, all are welcome at attend. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sambrano Funeral & Cremation, 4606 Old Grand Ave., Gurnee.
