Carol Ann Botimer, 79, succumbed to pancreatic cancer after a brave fight on March 6, 2022, at home with her daughters and close family by her side. Beloved wife of the late, Don; loving mother of Kathryn Botimer, Stacie (Dr. Scott) Miller, and Debbie Botimer; cherished grandmother (G Carol) of Timothy and Justin Miller, Anastasia and Samantha Smith, Jimmy Harrison, and Alissa Koop; great grandmother of Alexander Smith. Carol is also survived by dear friends, Dave and Tina Minnoch, and sisters-in-law, Pam Hutchings and Dorie Botimer; fond niece of Eunice; cousins, Lonnie Hutchings, Ed Hutchings, Gene (Susan) Hutchings, Linda (Vince) Andrews, and Bill VanOrnum. She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Shirley Hutchings; and her brother, Thomas Hutchings.
Carol graduated from Northern Illinois University majoring in elementary education, then married the love of her life, Don, on August 8, 1964. She enjoyed teaching until her first daughter, Kathy, was born. After a pause to raise her daughters, she returned to her love of teaching at Gurnee Community Church Preschool in 1982. She retired in 2001, and when her husband, Don, was able to retire in 2002, they sold their long time home in Gurnee and moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona. They enjoyed becoming snowbirds, but would travel in their 5th wheel camper back to Illinois every summer to escape the sweltering Arizona heat.
One of the things that gave Carol the most joy was spending time with her children and grandchildren, with whom she was very close. She was kind, patient and had the biggest heart. Carol was the most talented baker, cake decorator, and card crafter. She loved to share her creations with everyone she knew. She had an avid love for Elvis Presley, Old Country Music and the Chicago Cubs. Carol had a great passion for researching her family Ancestry, and had indirectly taken the role of the family genealogist; with her years of dedication recording her family history and backstories, she has left a wonderful legacy for us to continue, and that she is now a part of.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at 11am with a memorial visitation from 10am-11am, at Gurnee Community Church, 4555 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee with Pastor Chris Stephens officiating. Memorial donations may be made to Gurnee Community Church. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville. Arrangements entrusted to Sambrano Funeral & Cremation, Gurnee.
