Angela “Angie” Joy Bongratz, 41, of Gurnee, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2021, at Journeycare in Barrington after a thirteen month fight against cancer. She was born on August 23, 1980, in Lake Forest to Howard and Karen (Karth) Bongratz.
Angie was an artist who loved to create art in all media and had a wonderful way of taking the ordinary and making it extraordinary. As an Art Therapist, she used her artistic talents to inspire and encourage children and young adults with autism and special needs to express their emotions and communicate through art. She was a loving mother that spent many, many hours at the baseball field watching Ethan hit home runs, play catcher and get dirty sliding into home plate. She was devoted to her long time partner Patrick and was a treasured daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt and friend to everyone she met. Her smile, laugh and wonderful spirit would light up any room she walked into. She was loved deeply and will be dearly missed.
Angie is survived by her loving family; her son, Ethan; loving partner, Patrick Berry; mother, Karen Bongratz; maternal grandmother, Gladys Karth; brothers and sisters-in-law, Ben (Kelly) Bongratz and Joe (Jennifer) Bongratz; nieces and nephews, Maxwell, Jaxon, Zackary, Alex, and Ella; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Howard Bongratz; maternal grandfather, George Karth; and paternal grandparents, Ernie and Irene Bongratz. An informal, outdoor, memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021, from 3pm-6pm, at Zion State Park, 1 Lake Front Drive, Zion, IL. (Follow the road from the entrance at Sheridan and Wadsworth, all the way to the parking lot at the end). Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Autism Society (https://www.autism-society.org/get-involved/donate/). Arrangements entrusted to Sambrano Funeral & Cremation, Gurnee.
