Nancy L. Long, 78, of Gurnee, passed away December 24, 2018, at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. She was born October 25, 1940, in Waukegan to the late Clark and Leora (Liebert) Wetterberg. On July 10, 1965, Nancy married the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Long. Nancy was an art teacher, first in Highland Park, and retiring in 2008 from Woodland Middle School in Gurnee. She and Bob were involved with the Northern Michigan Antique Flywheelers for fourth grade field day, showing and teaching farming skills. Nancy was a very talented calligrapher, illustrator, and painter. She was proud to be the first female member in the Gurnee Lions Club, later becoming President. She was an Academic Counselor at Columbia College of Missouri in Gurnee, and was currently the Secretary of the Gurnee American Legion Auxiliary. She was an avid student of Native American culture and history. She also had a keen interest in local history, writing the “Village Vine” column in the Lake County Journal for many years. Nancy is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 53 years, Bob; son, Tom Long; daughter, Lisa Long; brother, James (Lynn) Wetterberg; brothers-in-law, David Long and Russell Long; sister-in-law, Carolyn (Clair) Deavor; many nieces and nephews, and her two cats, Torrie and Zoe. Visitation will be Friday, January 4, 2019, from 10 a.m. until service time at 12 noon at Gurnee Community Church, 4555 Old Grand Avenue, Gurnee, with Pastor Chris Stephens and Pastor Brian Walter officiating.
