LeRoy “Butch” Kobus, Jr., 54, of Gurnee, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, April 4, 2019, at home. He was born on March 2, 1965, in Honolulu, Hawaii to LeRoy and Mildred Kobus. On July 1, 1989, in Gurnee at his parent’s home, Butch married Smaragde “Margie” Karanikolas. Butch loved all outdoor activities including 4-wheeling, snowmobiling, hunting and fishing. He was a car enthusiast, an auto mechanic, and enjoyed racing sprinter cars at the Union Grove Raceway. Butch loved life, enjoyed having fun, and spending time with his family. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 30 years, Margie; his mother, Mildred “Millie” Kobus; three children, Michael Lee Kobus, Alexandra Mary Kobus and Jason (Anna) Kobus; sister, Carolyn (Eric) Cullison; sisters-in-law, Maria M. Karanikolas, Dina (Francisco Aguirre) Karanikolas and Nikole (Ryan) Karanikolas-Saldana; aunt, Joean Handyside; grandchildren, Hagan, Selah and Connor Kobus; nieces and nephews, Emily Cullison, Elizabeth Cullison, Catherine Cullison, Ivette Serrano, Micheal Serrano, Kaili Serrano, Christopher Thompson, Arianna Thompson and Olivia Thompson; great nephew, Joell Gloria, and many more extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, LeRoy J. Kobus, Sr.; parents-in-law, Micheal and Kaliope Karanikolas; uncle, Duane Handyside and sister-in-law, Varvara Karanikolas. Visitation will be held Monday, April 8, 2019, from 10:30am – 11:00am at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 1400 O’Plaine Rd., Gurnee. A funeral liturgy will take place on Monday, April 8, 2019, at 11:00am at the church with Fr. Cosmas Halekakis officiating.
