Eugene Michael “Mike” O’Connor, 83, of Gurnee, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 19, 2018, with his family by his side. He was born on April 10, 1935 in Waukegan to the late Eugene and Julia (Smith) O’Connor. Mike was the very proud owner of Chem-Rite Products in Waukegan until he sold the business in 2005. He was an avid golfer, and a "potato peeler" in the US Army. Mike is survived by his wife of 43 years, Caron Sue (nee Scheskie) O’Connor; daughters, Cindy Gill and Carrie O’Connor-Carter; step-son, Darryl (Carol) Detwiler; grandsons, Brandon Michael O’Connor Gill and Connor Alan Gill; and a half-sister Darlene.
He was lucky enough to have three sisters-in-law, Carol Petranek and her late husband Stephen; the late Sandra Ditzig and her husband Michael; and Jean (Terry) Butz; as well as many nieces and nephews. Mike is preceded in death by his parents. Stephen stepped out in 2008 to go fishing with the Lord and Sandy took her place with Jesus in 2012 as a baker. And now Mike has joined them as the Golf Pro.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 11am at Bethel Lutheran Church, 5110 Grand Ave., Gurnee with Rev. Dr. Ben Squires officiating, and a luncheon to follow at the church. Interment will be private. Mike’s family appreciates that flowers are not sent for his services; please donate to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, 912 Killian Hill Rd.
